He Is Risen!

Friday, March 25, 2016

Instead of a journal excerpt this week, I thought I'd share with you about Easter. I want to tell you all the good news of Christ, along with some Easter family traditions.

The good news of Christ isn't for a select group of people, it's for all people. Christ died on the cross for everyone and he rose again for everyone; He took your sin and washed it away with his blood.

In Luke 24:46-48, the Bible lays it out for us all to see; "He told them, 'This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.'" God told us all, through the Bible, that Jesus would die on the cross and rise again to save us all from the death of sin.

So this Easter, if you are searching for Jesus or already know Jesus; attend a church service, tell the world the good news, and show those who question you, Jesus's love and truth. God Bless you all!

Now, I want to hit on some of my family's Easter traditions. These traditions are the ones we have done/will do this year.

I am Polish, 50% to be exact, which means Easter is a big celebration. I don't remember an Easter when we didn't have kielbasa, pierogi, or white borscht; I honestly don't think we've ever not had those foods. When my Grammy was alive, she would call me on Easter and speak words from the Bible to me and say Hallelujah a bunch of times; now a days, I will play Christian music and read the verses she would recite to me.

As a Christian, my family has always attended an Easter service. When I was very little, I'd dress up in my Easter best and my cute little 90's Easter shoes (You all know what I'm talking about). I still do dress up in a Spring-inspired dress and I now have my big girl Easter shoes, that look just like my little girl ones. We still head to a church service and usually have dinner with family and friends!

I hope you have a fantastic Easter with your family and your friends! If you are on Spring break, like me, I hope you have a great time! I won't be back until next weekend, but I will be giving Angela the option to blog for me! I'll see you next weekend, with tons of photos and tons of great stories to share! Love you all and may God bless you!

Hi! I feel so bad for not uploading this on Tuesday, like I had originally planned. Instead of posting, Amanda and I hung out and got coffee. Yeah, so here it goes!

08/23/15
untitled 76

my eyes are the clouds
in seattle, washington skies,
they continue to rain
throughout the day

my collarbones are a rope
being pulled towards you
by your touch

my hair is a tree
as high as the rockies
your hands keep grasping
its branches

There you have it, a poem from August because I have 0 inspiration yet again. Hope you enjoyed and have a wonderful rest of your week! See you again on Tuesday!

netflix guilty pleasures

Monday, March 14, 2016

It's a Saturday night and you have nothing to do, you turn on the TV and the news is on almost every channel, and the news is depressing so you turn it off. Now is the perfect time to turn on Netflix, get under the covers, and watch some great shows.

The Flash

(source)

I was a little nervous to start watching this show, mainly because I love Marvel movies and shows and I didn't know if I was going to like a DC Comics show, ya feel? But now that I have finished the first season and I am ready to watch the second, I love this show with all my heart. If you also like Marvel movies and shows, I am more than sure that you will appreciate this show.

Fuller House

You're probably thinking, "Aubrey, why?" right now, but I promise it's a good show. Full House was my childhood, so when I heard they were making a new one I was ecstatic! This show follows up on DJ, Steph, and Kimmy's lives as adults and it is beyond funny and super cheesy. It's a feel good show!

Nikita

AHH Mikita (Michael and Nikita's ship name)!!!!! If you follow me on any of my social media, you know just how much I love this show and it's power couple. This show takes place in a secret government organization, it has a lot of rebellion and secretive things, I guess you'll just have to watch and find out what those secrets are!

Jane The Virgin

(source

This show is hilarious and hearty. Jane The Virgin is much like a telenovela with it's humor and charm. You'll begin to fall in love with the characters and secretly hope that Jane picks the man of your dreams.

Parks & Recreation

Watch it, I've watched it about 4 times all the way through. Enough said.

Now I'm going to go watch some more Netflix and eat some of my favorite salt and vinegar chips from Trader Joe's.

oldies and goodies

A lot of you know that when it comes to music, I am a big snob and that I think that the music I listen to is the best music. Today, I thought I'd take an opportunity to share with you my favorite records. Some of these records are newer and others are from my mother's childhood and teenage years. Either way, all of these records are wonderful and I 100% recommend them.

Let's begin with the nostalgic records (for my mom and probably a lot of adults, but not for adolescents)

Violent Femmes

Teehee, I just love the vibe of the Violent Femmes. Their songs give off this summery, happy vibe and it's just very enjoyable. I also adore the cover art, it inspires me to go to cool places and take awesome photographs. My absolute favorite songs from this album are Kiss Off and Gone Daddy Gone. (Oh yeah look at my new wall color, do you love or do you love?)

Pretty In Pink Soundtrack

Oh yes, the soundtrack of my very favorite movie. What a bomb soundtrack, am I right? I feel like most 80's movies have super great soundtracks and this is one of the bests. My favorite songs from this album are Left of Center by Suzanne Vega and Pretty in Pink by The Psychedelic Furs. If you haven't seen Pretty In Pink, please please please watch it!

American Pie by Don McLean

Such a classic and an amazing artist. I have been listening to Mr. McLean since I was a little girl. I remember summer nights when my Uncle Mike would bring over his guitar and we'd all sing American Pie and Vincent. This album brings back so many great memories. My favorite songs from this album are American Pie, Till Tomorrow and Vincent.

Now time for the more recent records, here we go!

You Haunt Me by Sir Sly

Amanda and I fell in love with Sir Sly when they opened up for The 1975, now we listen to them more than The 1975 (no shame).  My favorite songs from this record are Nowhere/Bloodlines Pt. 1, Inferno, and Too Far Gone.

Badlands by Halsey

I knew this album was amazing all along, considering I've been jamming to it since it came out, but let me tell you how great it is on vinyl. Halsey's raw talent mixed with the crackling sound of my record player creates this relaxing, chill environment. My favorite songs on this album are all of them, shocker!

Neighbors by Now, Now

(first off, why is this photo so uneven, ew) I love the Now, Now and I love this record (that's why I put it on here)! I got this record for Christmas and fell in love with it's beauty and simplicity. My favorite songs from this album are Roommates, Neighbors, and Giants.

I hope you found some new records to listen to so that you can become a music snob, like me. Go jam everyone, I'll see you next week!

okay so I am very angsty when it comes to poetry, probably because I am 18 and I'm not really considered an adult yet, but I'm also not a child so like angst is my only defense mechanism for my ego (Not even a defense mechanism, my AP psych teacher would be mad at me). So enough about me being angsty, here is a poem about adolescent things.

03/05/16

they say you should
never go to sleep angry,
but right now
that's the only way to escape
this torture

i cannot help but,
play that moment
over and over again
in my head.
i just need to go to bed

There you have it, my very very very angsty poem. I should title it Teenage Angst, if you ask me (too bad I hate titling my poems). Also, sorry for the awful grammar, I am very tired and not in the mood.

excerpt from my journal no. 13

Tuesday, March 1, 2016

I have to be honest with you all, I have major writer's block right now, so I haven't written anything new. I thought I'd share a little something about a barista that I thought was cute a few summers ago. It's just a happy/cute poem that I think will lighten your week up.

07/20/14
starbucks boy

there is this boy
whose smile could move waters
his eyes could save the world

there is this girl
who has pain in her eyes
and shyness in her voice

they watch each other
her drinking green tea
him making it for her

neither of them
have the courage
to speak

they both just wait
until one of them
speaks up to say "hello"

I don't know what happened to this guy nor do I need to know, I just know that 16 year old me thought he was cute enough to have a poem written about him. :) Goal of the week: find someone cute and write a poem about them so that my future journal excerpts won't be from 2 years ago. Hahaha I love you all so much, I'll write a poem about you cute people that view my blog.

xoxo, Aubs

sorry for no photos with this one!
